On April 8th, the Pentagon announced the deployment of the USS Florida, a nuclear-powered, guided-missile submarine, to the Red Sea to support the US Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain. The submarine is capable of carrying up to 154 Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles and is intended to help ensure regional maritime security and stability. The deployment of the submarine, which was accompanied by a rare public release of a photo of the vessel transiting the Suez Canal, is seen as an attempt to increase US forces in the region and deter resistance groups from attacking US occupation forces and their allies.

Unnamed US officials reportedly told the Wall Street Journal that the Pentagon had intelligence suggesting that Iran was planning further attacks in the region.https://bit.ly/3ZEjCLW The deployment of the submarine coincided with a historic meeting between the foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia in Beijing, where the two countries reportedly agreed to restore ties. Saudi Arabia is also planning to restore ties with Syria, aided by Russian support, and is moving forward with plans to end the war in Yemen. These developments, along with China and Russia's increasing influence in the region, have weakened Washington's grip on West Asia. visit for more
