China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project Benefits Over 150 Million People, Transfers 62 Billion Cubic Meters of Water
On May 12, 2023, an aerial panoramic photograph captured a pumping station located in Sihong County, Jiangsu Province, China, as part of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
China South-to-North Water Diversion Co., Ltd. announced on Sunday that the eastern and middle routes of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project have brought significant benefits to over 150 million people.
According to the company, the project has successfully transferred 62 billion cubic meters of water to the drought-prone northern regions through the eastern and middle routes.
The South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China consists of three routes, with the middle route being the most notable. This route originates from the Danjiangkou Reservoir in Hubei Province, traverses Henan and Hebei, and finally reaches Beijing and Tianjin. It commenced water supply operations in December 2014.
Meanwhile, the eastern route facilitates the transfer of water from Jiangsu Province in eastern China to areas such as Tianjin and Shandong.
As for the western route, it is currently in the planning stage and awaits construction.
